Since 1996 Capt. Dave's Sport Fishing has been a full-time fishing guide. From offshore 30 miles to the St. Johns river. For over 27 years he's had boats from 17 to 26'. Dealer Sponsored boats for a few years, to even running a 23', a 21' and a 17' center console all at the same time, in the late 1990's. But his real love was fishing the Mayport Jetties, where the St. Johns river meets the Atlantic Ocean. He had his 26 footer built just for that area. Because it's very big water. And the inlet can be rougher than it is 20 miles offshore, so he wanted a boat that could handle it 365, and it did for 20 years. But in November of 2024, he sold that boat and had a custom inshore, shallow draft 20 foot side console built in Louisiana. Because he wanted to concentrate on fishing calmer more tranquil creeks and bayous. With the ability to traverse the shallow marsh up in the river, for all the same species, just in a different environment. Instead of the boat filled with 4 persons plus him, which seemed more like ''people management'' many days, he set the passenger level of the new boat at 2 persons. For versatility, and going shallow, and more of a ''one on one'' experience for his customers. Just because we're fishing in saltwater, doesn't mean its a group affair. Most bass boats have two fisherman. Most Florida ''keys' flats boats heading off for Permit and Bonefish, have just two Anglers. May 2025 is when the new boat was completed. And he loves it. We can still fish the same areas such as the St. Johns River channel edges for trophy sized Redfish in the fall or the Black Drum at the inlet in January. But we have the opportunity to now tuck into the calm shallow marsh when the wind blows and be virtually un-effected by it in March, and catch Speckled Trout and keeper sized Redfish

I'M USUALLY, ANYMORE FED UP WITH THE RIVER, BECAUSE OF THE HUGE CURRENT, BOAT TRAFFIC, TUG BOATS, SHIPS, CONE-HEADS, AND AMOUNT OF CONSTANT WAKES. BUT TODAY, IT WAS NOT BAD AT ALL. I WAS SURPRISED.  MANY SPOTS, WERE COMFORTABLE TO ''FLOAT-RIG'' FISH, WITH THE 4 DOZEN LIVE SHRIMP, I BROUGHT ALONG.  I WAS FEELING ''SPENDY'', I GUESS. BECAUSE LURE FISHING WASN'T PART OF THE PLAN AT ALL.

NO THIS WASN'T A CHARTER TRIP WITH KIDS.....plenty o that is coming soon.  Just had fishing buddy Nick aboard. AND HE HOOKED UP A GOOD SIZED TROUT, BUT LOST IT AT BOAT SIDE WITHIN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES OF FLOATS IN THE WATER.   YES, SPECKLED SEA TROUT, my favorite fish of all time!  WHICH HAVE BEEN REALLY LACKING IN THE CREEKS, FOR ME.

THE NEW TROUT LIMITS REALLY SUCK. FLORIDA DOESN'T WANT YOU TO BE A FISH EATER IN N.E. FLORIDA.  BECAUSE THE 3 TROUT LIMIT, BETWEEN 15-19 INCHES, IS MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT.  I LIKE ''''''TROPHIES'''''''.  A 16" TROUT, DOES NOT EXCITE ME.  BUT A 20'' AND LARGER DOES....hopefully 5 pounds and larger!!!
TODAY, I HAD A 22-23'' 4 POUNDER. AND THATS WHAT I'M FISHING FOR, PERSONALLY. OR A 27'' REDFISH, OR A 2-4 POUND FLOUNDER.  BUT WE HAD NO REDFISH TODAY.  I MAY HAVE HOOKED A FEW, BUT I'M JUST GUESSING, BECAUSE WHATEVER ATE MY LIVE SHRIMP, BECAME A CASUALTY TO THE HEAVY STRUCTURE I WAS FISHING.  I BASICALLY, GOT MY BUTT HANDED TO ME, ON A PLATTER!  

WE DID CATCH FLOUNDER. BUT THET WERE BARELY KEEPERS AT 14 INCHES.  OF COURSE WE HAD PLENTY OF LADYFISH, WHICH ISN'T A BAD THING. SINCE TROUT - highly sought after, AND LADYFISH, FREQUENT THE SAME AREAS IN THE HOT MONTHS.  AND NICK CAUGHT A 5 POUND JAK CREVALLE ON HIS LIGHT TACKLE, FISHING A FLOAT RIG A BIT DEEPER, OFF A ROCK PILE.

I KEPT 4 TROUT, WE LOST 2, AND RELEASED THE LARGEST. AT THE 22-23 INCHES AND 4 POUNDS.

LEFT MAYPORT AT 1pm DIDN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH 6 HRS OF A RISING TIDE AND NO BITES LIKE YESTERDAY.

INSTEAD..."WE NEVER CAUGHT THE FIRST REDFISH?" NOT FROM A LACK OF TRYING, THATS FOR SURE.

BUT, AS THE TIDE TURNED WE CAUGHT PLENTY OF TROUT, WITH 4 GOOD KEEPERS, AND LOTS OF FLOUNDER. AND 2 KEEPERS.

THE SO-CALLED 5-10 KNOT WINDS UP IN THE CREEK WAS THE "JOKE ON US".
IT WAS SUPER WINDY. BUT BEGGARS CAN'T BE CHOOSERS. WE AT LEAST ONLY HAD TO WASTE, AND WE DID GETTING WAKE IN THE RIVER, 2 HRS OF THE HIGH TIDE, AND CAUGHT BASICALLY ZERO, STILL LOOKING FOR THOSE SCHOOLS OF YELLOWMOUTH TROUT ON PLACES WE CAUGHT THEM "EVERY YEAR THIS TIME, EXCEPT...THIS YEAR!!!"

WE HAD A GOOD TIME UP IN THE SALTMARSH, AS THE DAY GOT LATER IT TURNED REALLY NICE.

THE "NO REDFISH" THING WAS CONFUSING. BAIT EVERYWHERE AT DEAD LOW.

BUT MY OLE SAYING STILL RINGS TRUE FOR BAZARO WORLD FLORIDA, "BAIT BAIT EVERYWHERE AND NO FISH TO EAT THEM".

ON THE WAY OUT OF THE CREEK, WE SLOWLY DRIFTED SOME GIANT OYSTER MOUNDS LOOKING TO SEE IF REDFISH WERE AROUND. MAYBE THERE WAS. BUT THE TRAVELLER SAID, "I'M DONE", SO WE HEADED BACK TO MAYPORT BOAT RAMP TO MAKE THE DONUTS.

TRAVELLER BOB DOESN'T DO THE INCESSANT HEAT THING OF SUMMER.
HE'S NOT LIKE THE AVERAGE TOURIST. HE'S A TRUE ANGLER, ONE OF THE FEW I'VE HAD AS REPEAT CUSTOMERS. HEAT AND SWEATING HE KNOWS ISN'T THE FINEST FISHING IN JAX.

SO THE NEXT TIME HE'S COMING WILL BE LATE OCTOBER OR EARLY NOVEMBER.

WE WENT INTO A SALTY CREEK AND BOTTOM FISHED WITH DEAD SHRIMP, AND CAUGHT 2 BLACK DRUM, 2 PINFISH, AND A SPOTTED SEATROUT.

ALL IN TWO HOURS ON MY 2 HR. KIDS TRIP. (NOT TOO LONG, NOT TOO SHORT) MADE JUST FOR THE UNDER 10 YEAR OLDS, WHO CAN NOT DO A BIG TIME 6 HOUR SPORT FISHING CHARTER IN JACKSONILLE WHILE VISTING GRANDMA, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ALL THE WAY FROM ACROSS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY.

Solo, after the ''JAX FREEZE''...Still cold as a witches tit, but one heck of a nice day.

Major NEGATIVE low tide, light winds. Again, being a ''jetty guy'' for the past 29 years, I saw areas of the Marsh that I've never seen before with such low water.

Overall; 4- flounder too small to keep,
10- Trout too small to keep.
8- ''green scourge fish'' aka: Bluefish too small to keep.

And then, I got what I was fishing for!
a 21'' Speckled Wonder'', aka: Spotted Sea Trout.

Youtube has dropped the ball on my channel. Even huge channels are loosing VIEWS. Everyone is complaining. I'm treated like a 100% peee-on, I've wasted 18 years, doing Videos. YES. 18 years WASTED, trying to help people see what they'll do on their charter, maybe book a charter, or hopefully have someone recommend me.  Plus, pass on fishing Info. Its NEVER been worth my time, really. Just a hobby of sorts, a little income, that kinda equates to about .10 cents per hour of time spent editing etc. PER Youtubes constant suggestions, I even spent $2k PLUS in equipment to do knife sharpening content....AGAIN, 100% FAIL.  YT, used to be people just sharing ideas. Now its Networks, and Multi-Millionaires, and people quitting their REAL jobs, their daily, J-O-B!!  The unemployable, employed via Youtube?!  REALLY, a feeding Squirrels channel doing $50K a year in INCOME??   Just think for a moment. The internet has been destructive as hell. For some.  I feel for your kids, as AI will destroy life as we know it. With at least a 1/4 of YT videos are 100% FAKE, and promoted by the Libtards at YT.

CASTED MATRIX SHAD SOFT PLASTICS ON A JIG HEAD, AND WACKED AND STACKED A DOZEN TROUT IN NO TIME. WENT BACK AND FILLETED MY WHOPPING 5 THE STATE ALLOWS THESE DAYS.

OF COURSE AS THE TIDE FELL, THE REDFISH WERE INSANE. BUSTING BAIT IN THE SHALLOWS WITH THEIR BACKS OUT OF THE WATER. PROBABLY OVER 30 FISH AN 8 HOURS OF FISHING IN MILL COVE, FROM 1 FOOT TO 10 FOOT.  THE TAKE HOME FOR DINNER?   ONE SPCKLED SEA TROUT!!!!!!!!
THE PLACE IS BEYOND A NURSERY. UNBELIEVABLE.  WE CAUGHT LOADS OF 14'' TROUT, BLACK DRUM, AND REDFISH IN THE 6 HRS PLUS WE SPENT IN THE COVE, AND ITS A 100% NURSERY.  THE TIDE WAS RISING, FALLING, WE HAD IT ALL!  WE FISHED THE BRIDGE, SHELL BARS, GRASS LINES, DOCKS. IT DID NOT MATTER. THE ONLY PLACE WE DID NOT TRY WAS WHAT USED TO BE A TROPHY TROUT SPOT, BUT IT WAS THE WRONG TIDE AND KINDA A FAR RIDE.  LIVE SHRIMP, ALL DAY. ON POPPING CORKS, ON JIG-HEADS, SOME TOP WATER PLUGGING. ALL FISH WERE ""SHORT""....SUCH A NURSERY.   NEVER FAILS. CAUGHT LOADS OF FISH, ALL THE RIGHT SPECIES. IT'S FALL, BAIT IS EVERYWHERE. WATER TEMPS ARE GREAT. HAD A PERFECT DAY. TRAVEL A GOOD WAYS TO FISH AN AREA, CATCH TONS OF FISH, AND """""ONE"""" FISH WAS A KEEPER FOR DINNER.  TO KICK IT ALL OFF, AT THE END OF THE DAY, CAUGHT A VERY NICE FLOUNDER, BUT FLOUNDER SEASON IS PRESENTLY """""""""""CLOSED"""""""""""" ITS ACTUALLY QUITE PITIFUL.

HERE'S JUST A FEW OF THE WACKY FISH CAUGHT RECENTLY (weird to smallest, coldest to CLOSED for harvest)   The wind has been blowing, an the HIGH TIDES are killing me.  Everything is FLOODED, and bites when the tides is so high like that are about "NIL".   Did install a Larger and better Sounder/GPS on the Jettywolf on the 28th of Oct.

Here's Mike, he and his his dad fish out of a little boat in the creeks, "just like I do".  But Mike wanted to catch a bigger fish. So he booked a 1/2 day trip. We didn't go far. But the tide was wicked strong as usual. And Mike caught a 17 pound Redfish, which you usually won't get up in the Marsh Creeks.  Unfortunately, this was the only one. But the battle cured Mike's want for a BIG fish for a little while. It wore him out.

10/14 - Video with Traveller Bob

YOUR FRESH FISH

10/15 - 2nd day with TRAVELLER BOB.  Not much to report. Turns out that the weather went Bad real fast.  Bob and I met at 7am as usual, at the Mayport boat ramp.  The forecast wasn't good.  ''SMALL CRAFT EXERCISE CAUTION!!'', a radical difference compared to yesterday (day 1) with Bob.
But we bottom fished for Bull Redfish.  Starting out ''hiding'' from the N.E. Wind.  Caught some junk, a few whiting, a few panfish types and toooo many saltwater catfish. The scourge of the St, Johns river. Which are un-avoidable, if any bait is near the bottom.  The ebbing tide was fast, so we hid from it also.  Then, as noon approached and we were further from the boat ramp it really got bad. A falling tide against a NOW due EAST wind bucking the current made the river a true soup sandwich, for my Small Craft'' that was a creek boat.  We got soaked, didn't catch any big Bull Redfish, and should have just went in the creeks, and left from the Oak Harbor ''secluded'' boat ramp.  The flat bottom JETTYWOLF ll, took a beating, and we decided to bag it, at noon.  The wind versus tide is never a good thing in Mayport FL.

We had Redfish & Speckled Trout fillets from yesterday. So Bob said, '' ya wanna join me at ''Singletons Seafood Shack'' in Mayport for Blackened Redfish and fried Trout for dinner?''  Of course, I said.  Singleton's is a local favorite in Mayport, only around the corner from the boat ramp. They'll cook up your catch for ya.  And thats what we did and it was damn good!

Two people enjoy a fishing tour in Florida

Went into Mill Cove at low tide "shallow alert" but the Jettywolf ll handles it like a dream. The water was like mud, everywhere we went today. Have oldest customer with me for day one of two.  We fished over a shell bar with live shrimp on small floats drifting with the last moments of current. Bob caught a few small Speckled Trout, and I hooked up a keeper 19" Redfish. The bait stealers as usual were a huge issue as always in N.E. Florida inshore. So as the tide died, so did all bites. Left out of the cove and float-rigged a few other spots. Bob wasn't hooking up anything. So I gave it a try, and hooked up on a 17" chunky Speckled Trout.  But that was about it besides Bob catching a Jack Crevalle.  Bob's usually the "hot rod". So we left out, the river was full of wakes from tug boats and ships. So into a creek we went. Now, the tide was rising.   NOT the best for this creek spot. I cast a gold spoon and got a "keeper" 18" Redfish on it. So we kept it. Then Bob caught a 20" Redfish and a handful of "Pups", at 16 inches.  Not a super day.  Found out even though Mill Cove is "FULL" of Mullet, big ones. Obviously, its still not "right".  It's becoming only a dead of winter area.  The reason we tried it at my Benchmark spot (one that gives me all the ideas if its worth it in there) the bait-stealers are rampid, and it's not turned on as years ago. Maybe in Nov. or Dec.   Day#2 with Traveller Bob we will pursue over-sized Bull Redfish, and have even a bit longer falling tide.  The forecast is a lot more wind for day 2 (10/15).

AFTER THE ''BIG'' WINDS....on Sunday Oct. 12.  A ZOO of people at the tiny Oak Harbor boat ramp. Parking lot was full by 0730 hrs. when we departed.  it was finally calm. Couldn't give away a bait up in the creek, so went into the ICW, and still not much.  Had a 5 & 8 yr old brothers and dad.  just fished the rods in the holders. the kids couldn't do much, but we ended up with croakers and a stingray. The day after the week of mega high winds didn't do us any favors. NEXT UP:  Tuesday and Weds. TRAVELLER BOB, FROM ASHVILLE.  👍👍
